Set up your personal workspace
Set up your personal workspace
Use this procedure when you are new to NovaVMS, or when you are taking over a shift and want the UI to behave the way you expect. Every setting on this page is personal to your account — it does not affect other users in your organisation.
Procedure
1. Pick your default live grid
- Go to Live.
- Open the grid selector dropdown in the toolbar.
- Pick the grid you want to see first every time you open Live.
- Click the star icon next to the grid name to mark it as your default.
2. Order your saved views
- Still on the Live page, click Edit grids (or go to Settings → My grids).
- Drag grids into the order you want. The top one is shown when you land on Live.
- Click Save.
3. Set your notification preferences
- Click your avatar in the top-right and choose Account.
- Open the Preferences tab.
- Toggle the channels you want:
- In-app alerts — the notification bell at the top of the page.
- Email alerts — email to the address on your account.
- Camera notifications — camera-online/offline toasts while you are signed in.
- Choose an email frequency:
immediate, digest (hourly), ordigest (daily). - Set your timezone so event times display in your local hours.
- Click Save preferences.
4. Customise your dashboard widgets
- Go to Dashboard.
- Click the gear icon in the top-right.
- Toggle the widgets you want to see (Cameras, Gateways, Events Today, Unacknowledged Alerts, Storage Used, Event Volume Chart, Recent Events, Recent Alerts).
- Your choices save automatically and follow you across browsers and devices.
Common variations
- Shared monitoring stations: if multiple operators share one computer, create a shift-specific account for each operator rather than trying to share one login — workspace settings are per-user and will be overwritten when someone else signs in.
- Night-shift view: set your default grid to your after-hours cameras and use
digest (daily)email frequency to avoid overnight noise.
If this didn’t work
- If your saved preferences do not follow you to a new browser, check that you are signed in with the same account — preferences are tied to the user, not the device.
- If email alerts do not arrive after you turn them on, your admin may not have configured email delivery (SendGrid). Ask them to check Settings → Email.
Related
- Create and edit live grids — build the grids you then mark as default.
- Set up an alert rule — control which events turn into notifications in the first place.
